Lash LaRue, born Alfred LaRue, was an American actor and cowboy hero best known for his roles in western movies of the 1940s and 1950s. He was born on June 15, 1917, in Gretna, Louisiana, and grew up in various towns throughout Louisiana and Texas.

LaRue's signature look was his black outfit, ten-gallon hat, and his use of a bullwhip as a weapon, which became his trademark. He started his acting career in 1944, with his first leading role in "Song of the Range."

Lash LaRue became a popular Western star and reached his peak in the early 1950s. He appeared in over 40 films during his career, including "Mark of the Lash," "Outlaw Country," and "King of the Bullwhip." He also made several television appearances, including "The Lone Ranger" and "The Adventures of Kit Carson."

LaRue retired from acting in the early 1960s and turned to property development. He passed away on May 21, 1996, at the age of 78, due to complications from emphysema. He was inducted posthumously into the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum's Western Performers Hall of Fame in 2005.
